The investiture of the new French President, Francois Hollande, on May 15, was a long and solemn affair according to tradition and protocol. The official handover of power from former President Nicholas Sarkozy took place at the presidential palace of the Elysée, where President-elect Hollande was formally sworn in as head of state. Then, as French republican tradition demands, M. Hollande made his way to the Hôtel de Ville city hall, the seat of the Mairie of Paris for his first official state visit, where he was received with all the honour and ceremony accorded to any visiting head of state. At the heart of all the audio management and distribution was the Eclipse digital mixing console from Innovason, purchased by the Mairie of Paris last year for just such an occasion.

The programme, featuring musical presentations and inspirational speeches, took place at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., home to the Washington Nationals baseball team, and featured 12 stacks of six GTO speakers each, mounted on specially designed mobile speaker carts for easy “wheel-in” set up. Sound for the event was completely run from the ground level, with the sonic accuracy, clarity and punch delivered by the GTO cabinets. This allowed attendees to enjoy crystal-clear, loud, full-range sound from any vantage point in the stadium.

Beautiful, elaborate, ornate, the Timisoara National Theatre in Romania is one of those European jewels of which we have been denied for so long. As a venue it stands within the Palace of Culture, an arts centre conceived in the Viennese style by architects Hellmer and Felmer, and was opened in 1875 at the height of the Belle Époque. The horseshoe auditorium conforms to the traditional three balcony format, and the stage these days welcomes classical theatre, musical drama, childrens’ theatre, and some challenging contemporary works. It has most recently welcomed a small German intrusion, not that this was challenging, but was apparently one that has been on its wish list for some time.

Previously PA to managing director Stephen Capel, Parks will take over all day to day running of the company. Parks comments: "As the company has grown over the past few years, I have been shadowing Stephen, so it made sense for an official restructuring in order to formalise my role and to allow Stephen to focus on other aspects of the business. "My strengths lie in client liaison and people management, where Stephen's lie in his extensive lighting industry experience and business development, so it makes good business sense to capitalise on these abilities." Point Source was established to provide high quality equipment and service to the entertainment, event and corporate service industries. But as the business grew, the growing amount of administration took Capel away from the parts of the job he enjoyed doing most: business development, and talking to lighting designers and directors.
