Italian theatre lighting company LDR has announced that their largest single order for ALBA 200W LED zoom profile spotlights to date is for the Vanemuine Theatre in Tartu, Estonia. Local distributor E&T Ltd is currently upgrading 'The Grand Building', the largest of the theatre’s three venues, with a total of 52 of LDR's new high-power LED spotlights. This follows the installation of LDR's conventional TH spotlights in the theatre's mid-sized venue in 2010.

Doughty to Show Wide Range of New Products at PLASA

Although a regular exhibitor, this year Doughty has its own stand for the first time at PLASA and will be showing a host of new products. The Baby Quick Trigger clamp is designed specifically for smaller truss sizes, being adjustable to diameters of 25mm-38mm and, with TUV approval pending, comes in polished aluminium or satin black. Recently appointed the UK distributor for Reutlinger, Doughty will be showing their range of Cable Holders, in two sizes to suspend loads of up to 130kg and 330kg on wire rope. Gurten festival takes place annually on a clearing atop the Gurten foothills on the Swiss Alps by the capital city of Bern. The four-day festival originated in 1977, and today, managing the logistics of the festival are in one word a masterpiece. Access to the festival site up on the mountain is via one street, which can only be travelled in one direction at a time. The entire festival set-up takes about a month, and another two weeks for the teardown. Artists travel in special shuttles with priority on the road, there’s also a heli-pad set up for medical emergencies. The general population also arrives by ‘Gurtenbahn’ a local equivalent of a cable car. Some people choose to hike the 45 minute trek to the site. Practically all choose to stay and camp for the duration of the show. Due to the site’s constraints and access, a limit of 18,000 people per day is set for the festival.

To further this initiative, the test administration fee of $675 for groups of seven or more will be waived for the month of October only. The BBC for instance leased the roof and 22nd floor of a local office building and Al Jazeera built a studio on top of a 24 story apartment building because “they liked the view”.

Nestled in the leafy outer fringes on the eastern edge of Melbourne lies Oxley Christian College, a school that provides education for about 1000 children, aged between four to 18 years. In order to offer a more intimate space than their large school hall and to support its strong sense of community, the decision was made to build a brand new performing arts centre. This space was not simply to be a stage for performing arts; it would have to fulfil the myriad of functions that fill any school's academic year. One week it might have to host a full scale student drama and music production playing to two hundred and fifty, the next it could be hosting a lecture or parents' evening. The College, bolstered by a significant grant from the Federal Government, set about turning their plans into reality.
