Heavy metal icon Black Sabbath continues its Reunion Tour in Latin America, Europe and the UK with a grandMA2 light console. The tour celebrates the band’s reunion last year and supports their album “13”, the first with Ozzy Osbourne since 1978. Baz Halpin is the tour’s lighting designer and Michael Keller, lighting programmer.
Keller selected the grandMA2 for the tour since he’s most comfortable programming that platform. “We’re carrying the grandMA2 light with us now, but you can find grandMA2 in most places. grandMA2 does everything I need.”

The Stravinsky Auditorium is part of the Montreux Convention Centre which sits on the shoreline of Lake Geneva in Switzerland. It hosts, amongst a wide range of events, the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival which itself will forever be associated with the destruction by fire of the original Montreux Casino during a performance by Frank Zappa and which was commemorated by Deep Purple in ‘Smoke on the Water’. The key to the appeal of the auditorium is its modularity, enabling it to be adapted for the widest possible range of uses. With a partially modular floor the venue can be configured in classroom, concert and theatre configurations. The Stravinsky is quite simply a giant of a venue with a peerless reputation. QSC Q-Sys Core 250i Takes Control in Brasschaat, Belgium

The local council in the suburb of Brasschaat, north of Antwerp in Belgium, near the border with the Netherlands, has purchased a QSC Core 250i-based Q-Sys system with a TSC-3 touchscreen controller and QSC KLA line array loudspeakers as part of the audio system in the multi-purpose hall at the heart of its local cultural centre. The hall and its raised stage is used for everything from public meetings to children's parties and concerts by local musicians. The staff that run the sound system in the hall are direct employees of the council and recommended the purchase of the Q-Sys system along with the KLA active line array system following a demo by the local QSC distributor, AED.

Mozart’s Masterpiece: Sennheiser at the Salzburg Serail

On August 26, the Salzburg Festival presented an extraordinary new production of "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" (The Abduction from the Seraglio) in cooperation with Austrian private TV channel ServusTV. Mozart’s masterpiece was transferred from the 18th century to the present day and was performed in the spectacular setting of Hangar-7 and Hangar-8 at Salzburg Airport. A Digital 9000 wireless microphone system from audio specialist Sennheiser was used to transmit the voices of stars such as Desirée Rancatore and Tobias Moretti.

Opéra Bastille in Paris is one of the two main venues of the Opera National du Paris, France’s principal opera company (the other venue is the prestigious Opéra Garnier). Designed by Uruguayan architect Carlos Ott and located at the place de la Bastille, the building houses a 2700-seat theatre as well as a smaller concert hall and studio. Part of president Francois Mitterrand’s ‘Grands Projets’, Opéra Bastille was one of eight iconic building projects begun in the 1980s to revitalise Paris and create modern ‘monuments’ to symbolise France’s role in art, economics and politics at the end of the twentieth century. The scale of Mitterrand’s project was compared at the time to the major building schemes of Louis XIV and as such, The Bastille Opera house constitutes part of one of the most important post-war examples of urban planning in Europe.

The musician and prominent activist’s audio engineer Jason Raboin uses the mics to achieve the ultimate sound of the grand piano, mandolin and violin that are prominently featured in her music. A long-time DPA fan, Raboin doesn’t leave home without the d:votes. He even brought them with him to Baez’s special performance in late July with Jackson Browne and Emmylou Harris to benefit Downtown Streets Team, an organization aiming to end homelessness.

White Light returns to the annual PLASA London exhibition in 2013, held for the first time at London’s ExCel Centre. As in previous years, the White Light Zone will serve as home base for the latest lighting, effects, and media control technology from exclusive manufacturers. The company will also showcase enhanced White Light services for 2013, including its in-house custom colour service, expanded training programme, and improved product support. The White Light Bar, a PLASA London tradition, will form the centre of the White Light Zone on Stand F50.

Allen & Heath digital iLive systems were used for the recording of a new DVD by one of Brazil’s most popular singers, Claudia Leitte. Recorded at a major gig in Pernambuco Arena in Recife, an iLive-112 Control Surface with iDR-64 MixRack was used by monitor engineer, Roque Fausto, and an iLive-144 surface with iDR-64 rack using Dante, was employed by famed engineer, Beto Neves, in the mobile recording truck.
