Red Bull’s Revolutions in Sound

UK - On 14th November 2013, PRG teamed with leading production company Innovision to bring the EDF Energy London Eye to life, celebrating fifteen years of Red Bull Music Academy. The event celebrated club culture, bringing together over 100 DJ’s and artists including Lily Allen, Katy B, Rudimental, Ritchie Hawtin, Goldie, Gilles Peterson and a whole host of other performers.

Within each capsule of the London Eye, there was an individual lighting scheme for each club brand and even the TV show Channel 4 House Party had their own pod. Altogether there were thirty clubs, 31 live streams and over one million online viewers.

PRG’s account manager Andrew Strachan comments: “Lighting each of the London Eye capsules individually was a real challenge: 32 pods, 32 technicians and one rotation of the eye to get it right - and we did! As well as lighting the capsules we also transformed the landscape around the London Eye which enhanced the silent disco club vibe and added to the overall experience.”

Innovision masterminded the whole event for Red Bull with Jaie Genadt from Innovision taking the lead. PRG’s onsite team comprised of Chris Scott, Carl Boswell and Dennis Brown, with project support from Greg Douglas and over thirty technicians.

The pods were lit to reproduce the red and blue of the Red Bull logo, with Pixel Pars in each pod and LED LitePanels to light the DJ. These were the ideal fixture for the job as they are lightweight, with a low power consumption and camera friendly – with a high output which can be dialed from any colour from cool white daylight to warm tungsten. Additionally one of the pods was fitted with GLP 120 RZ moving LED wash units.

PRG also provided a lighting scheme for the landscape area around the London Eye, including the VIP boat. The rig consisted of VL3500 Wash fixtures, VL6 Spot Luminaires, GLP 120 RZs and Palco 3s all controlled from a Road Hog Full Boar console.
