A/V integration firm Audio Diseño designed and installed a custom, high-SPL sound system for Simon Mansion and Supper Club using the cost-effective, high-fidelity Symetrix Zone Mix 761 fixed architecture, standalone digital signal processor.

Five years in the making, the King Kong musical, produced by Australia’s Global Creatures, has opened to thrilled and awed audiences in Melbourne at Australia’s Regent Theatre. The star of the show is undoubtedly the six metre, one tonne King Kong puppet, designed by Global Creature Technology. Contracted by Production Resource Group, L.L.C., (PRG), Stage Technologies teams in the UK, the US and Australia worked closely with Global Creature Technology to supply the ground-breaking automation system which controls the eponymous ape. The automation package includes over 12 tonnes of steelwork, motors, winches, and cable management systems, which give the Kong puppet its sweeping movements; enable it to lift and rotate; and allow it to travel up, down and across the stage. The on-board winches control the height and rotation of the body, and allow Kong to fly in, leap, gallop, stand, etc.

Expanded Renkus-Heinz Iconyx System for Stockholm's Ornate Katarina Church

One of the major churches in south Stockholm, Katarina Church, was originally built by royal decree in the 17th century. It has been destroyed by fire twice and was reopened after the second rebuilding in 1995, restored to its former glory with a large dome and four smaller towers. With a total of five SD racks (two for FOH, two for monitors, and one for opening artist, Miguel), they're also carrying a pair of SD10s (one at FOH and monitor world) to handle the eight-member band including the headliner. Newly positioned at FOH is Tim Colvard (pictured), who took over the European leg of the tour. Although Colvard's employed DiGiCo consoles for many of his client’s international tours, this was his first time on an SD10 (as well as his debut outing with both the artist and with Clair Global). A draft standard that would change how we measure the output of LED luminaires is now posted for public review at http://tsp.plasa.org/tsp/documents/public_review_docs.php. The proposed new standard, BSR E1.48 - 201x, A Recommended Luminous Efficiency Function for Stage and Studio Luminaire Photometry, specifies an luminous efficiency function V(lambda) based on recent human eye response research. Most light meters in use today use the 89-year-old CIE 1924 V(lambda) function. It's wrong, particularly at the long and short wavelengths, so meters using it significantly under-report the output of RGB LED luminaires and any other sources that put out significant energy in the extreme ends of the spectrum.

The robots have a 1.5 metre reach and six axes of movement, with the ability to extend vertically, horizontally and rotate.

Stage Technologies installs power flying system at The Backstage Centre

Stage Technologies has provided an automation system for The Backstage Centre, which opened in Purfleet’s High House Production Park in the spring of 2013. The Backstage Centre is to be used not only for rock and roll tour rehearsals, TV and film productions, and other professional projects, but it will also provide high calibre training for students working towards a career in technical theatre and the live music sector. Stage Technologies has installed a fully integrated powered flying system including four flybar winches, a two line performer flying winch and four moveable point hoists with re-configurable rigging hardware for setting up complex 3D flying applications. Equipment is controlled using the latest Au:Tour equipment as well as an array of desks running eChameleon software.
