Hawthorn Lights ‘Indika’ Premiere at CAST, Doncaster

UK - Hawthorn recently worked with lighting designer Declan Randall to provide an additional lighting package and video projections for Indika, a new musical dance spectacular. The production tells the story of India throughout the years using the medium of dance. The premiere of the first UK production of Indika had a hugely successful run at the new state-of-the-art CAST Theatre in Doncaster in early October. The production will tour the UK in 2015.

Randall took full advantage of Hawthorn’s wysiwyg Suite, pre-programming the whole show prior to its one-week production fit up at the CAST Theatre. Hawthorn was also contracted to provide technical support for the installation. The lighting package supplied included a range of Clay Paky fixtures including Sharpy, Sharpy Wash and Alpha Profile 800’s.

The production featured classical Indian choreography to an original score performed by a live band. Vibrant costumes and lighting moods provided audiences with an authentic taste of Indian history translated into dance. The international cast included 24 talented young dancers from India, including finalists from India’s Dancing Superstar (IDS) and India’s Got Talent (IGT).

Producer Thrinath Kumar said of working with Hawthorn that “they supplied all the technical equipment for the show. Once I signed the agreement, I did not have to think about anything technical as the team from Hawthorn led by Matt Oscroft totally looked after everything, and they did it with a smile! When we had a slight technical problem a few hours before the opening, they drove a specialist from London (at a couple of hours’ notice) so we could start without problems. It genuinely has been a pleasure to work with Matt and his team.”
