Never Mind the Buzzcocks
UK - Music has always been a huge part of British culture and music shows have always been popular with our audiences, whether that is shows that include live performances (such as Top of the Pops and CDUK) or game shows.
Never Mind the Buzzcocks is one of those shows!
It’s such a cult now that it is fondly known as Buzzcocks by its fans. The comedy panel game show with a pop music theme now has something new to keep it fresh, in the shape of presenter Rhod Gilbert. The show is noted and known for its dry, sarcastic humour and scathing, provocative attacks on other people and objects. It has also had some controversial guests throughout its 18 year run. This all means that the Welsh funny man (who has possibly one of the driest senses of humour on the ‘circuit’ at the moment) will be brilliant and will bounce off some of the celebrity guests that they get in each week.
It stars Phill Jupitus and Noel Fielding as team captains. The show is produced by Talkback for the BBC, and is usually aired on BBC Two. With all of the changes in the Industry, this new series will now be filmed at Elstree Studios.
Thankfully one of the constants for the show is Richard Martin Lighting! RML has lit Never Mind the Buzzcocks for a number of years and while the set remains the same, the lights are constantly evolving and tweaking to maximise the effect.
LD Chris Kempton specs Mac 600s, Stage Zoom 1200s, Mac 250s, Alpha Beam 300s, Chroma Set Kits, MR16 Birdies, Pixel Bricks and a Nova Flower. Now that the series is being filmed in a different, larger studio, there is also some audience lighting which consists of two Pixel Par 90s, GLP Impressions and LED 12 Lites.
The show was first aired in November 1996 so it’s obviously doing something right!
