GDS ArcLamp wins the ABTT Lighting Product of the Year 2014
UK - As GDS enjoys its 10 year celebrations it shows no sign of reducing its ambitious approach to innovation. The launch of ArcLamp, awarded the ABTT 2014 Theatre Award for Lighting Product of the Year, is yet more evidence of the GDS forward march.
ArcLamp is the final piece in the jigsaw toward achieving a total LED auditorium lighting solution. Suitable for any shape, age or size of venue, ArcLamp is a like for like replacement for the standard candle or golf ball lamp in a beautiful LED equivalent and has all of the attributes synonymous with the ArcSystem range.
ArcLamp is a compact and robust 4.8W LED lamp available in Candle and Golf Ball in both clear and frosted types. Truly and smoothly dimmable from 100% to Absolute zero, ArcLamp is ideally suited for chandeliers, circle fronts and wall-lights. In replacing tungsten/ incandescent lamps, ArcLamp offers in the region of a 90% energy saving, offers stellar light quality and does not compromise on aesthetics.
Prior to the development of the ArcLamp, the entertainment industry had no real LED solution for this type of light fitting. In a neat twist, The Savoy Theatre in London – the first building in the world to be entirely lit by electricity - became the first to install ArcLamp. The results at The Savoy met with the enthusiastic approval of all parties involved. In the words of the Chief Electrician of The Savoy, Chris Keniger: “ArcLamp has ensured that the auditorium not only retains its original atmosphere but in my view, looks the best it has ever looked in my time here.”
Simon Needle, projects director at WhiteLight Ltd observed that: "The ArcLamp fixtures are show stealers. To have created a low voltage candle-lamp that can be retro-fitted somewhere like The Savoy Theatre and not only be quickly and easily installed but also offers the kind of dimming control that it does, is some achievement. The ArcLamp fixtures enable the theatre to stay true to the intentions of its original interior designers, whilst the warmth of the light actually enhances the outcomes they were seeking. Energy costs are reduced to a fraction without compromising any aspects of the theatre's wonderful character. A win/win if ever there was one."
GDS managing director Matt Lloyd was delighted: "For ArcLamp to be recognised with this important award is very satisfying indeed and pays tribute to the hard work of the entire GDS team."
