AED Distribution Ltd & High End Systems look for "the HOG Factor" at PLASA
UK - AED Distribution, in partnership with High End Systems, is to host the first-ever HOG Factor during the PLASA tradeshow taking place in London ExCel from October 5-8. The AED booth N80 will be the place to be on Tuesday, October 7 to discover who has got the HOG Factor.
HOG Factor is a design and programming competition open to different teams of Students that are currently enrolled at any UK full-time Entertainment technology course. The Teams will be set a piece of music, chosen in advance by the judges, and a pre-determined rig of High End Systems’ fixtures. It is then entirely up to them, to release their full creative talent combined with good programming skills on a HOG4 lighting console, to create a show to impress the Judges on October 7. The Winning Team will take home a High End Systems’ HedgeHog 4 Console.
The HOG Factor Judges comprises some of the most respected Industry lighting professionals. First out of a total of three judges is Frank Schotman, AED Distribution product specialist for High End Systems, who has programmed lighting for shows from Metallica to the Olympics. Renowned LD’s Ross Williams and Oli Metcalfe will complete the Jury. Ross just recently won an Emmy as one of the lighting programmers at the Sochi Winter Olympics and has been a lighting programmer and Operator since 1995. He has programmed the lighting for a long list of productions including ‘The Voice 2013’, ‘The Brits 2013’ and the ‘MTV Europe Awards’. Ross Williams comments: "I’m very excited to be part of this and looking forward greatly to seeing what these young talents come up with!"
Oli Metcalfe started in the industry in 1995 and has progressed to become the lighting, stage and video designer for British Rock Giants Muse and most recently for Linkin Park. In 2012, Oli won the coveted Lighting Designer of the Year Award at the TPi Awards.
David March, managing director at AED Distribution Ltd. Adds: "We are thrilled that Ross and Oli have agreed to be part of this alongside Frank. It’s a great opportunity for the Students to show their talent to this professional Jury and who knows what future possibilities that could open for them!"
The Teams are made up of students from a number of industry colleges, including Rose Bruford College, Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and LIPA (the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts). Colin Wood, AED Distribution UK HOG product specialist and trainer, is on hand as a HOG4 Coach to assist the students in their endeavours before and during their show.
