UK - The inaugural artistic director of the Chichester Festival Theatre in Sussex was Sir Laurence Olivier, who occupied the role for three years following its opening in 1962. If that alone does not offer sufficient evidence of its status as one of Britain's most important theatres, then scrolling forwards to June 2014 most certainly does. Following extensive rebuilding and refurbishment, the venue re-opened on a gala evening in the presence of a host of the biggest hitters in British theatre. Sirs Tom Stoppard, Cameron Mackintosh and Peter Shaffer joined a congregation of other stellar names to celebrate the eagerly anticipated occasion. The re-development was concerned with modernising the theatre to ensure a sustainable future as well as enabling it to meet the demands of more adventurous contemporary productions. In the opinion of the Telegraph theatre critic Charles Spencer who witnessed a recent production of Guys and Dolls, the work has been successful. He left the Festival Theatre, "walking on air and with a grin of pure happiness..."

The show took place on the GoPro Stage at the Grand Plaza of the Anaheim Convention Center on Sunday, January 25. The Villalobos Brothers performed a unique blend of songs that celebrated the richness of Mexican folk music. Dan Spitz, co-founding member, co-producer and lead guitarist of the American thrash metal band Anthrax, and vocalist Michaela Paige, a Top 12 contestant on Season 3 of NBC’s hit reality TV show The Voice, have collaborated to form P.S., a unique blues duo with the mission of raising autism awareness around the world through a soon-to-be-released, self-titled acoustic EP. For the project, Spitz plays several unique Weissenborn lap slide guitars, which he recorded using a stereo pair of DPA Microphones’ d:dicate 4011A cardioid microphones, an equally distinctive microphone capable of capturing the instruments’ exceptional acoustics. USA - Featuring competition in 36 different sporting events, the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games were recently held at the Estadio Luis “Pirata” Fuente in Veracruz, Mexico. As with any international sporting event, the opening and closing ceremonies of the games were expected to be the engaging and entertaining bookends of the production. To oversee the lighting design for the opening and closing ceremonies, lighting designer David Grill was brought on board and he brought with him a high-powered rig filled with 126 VL4000 Spot, 150 VL3500 Wash, and 50 VL3500 Wash FX luminaires from Philips Vari-Lite, supplied by Solotech.

Austria - The opera "El Juez" (the judge) celebrated its world première in the new Festspielhaus in Erl, Austria. The Festspielhaus was built by STABAG (the general contractor) and designed by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, Vienna. It seats over 862 people (there are 732 seats in the galleries and 130 removable seats in the orchestra pit area) and has the largest orchestra pit in the world (160 sq.m / 190 sq.yd.). The building covers no less than 7000 sq.m / 8372 sq.yd. Johannes Laugwitz (CA GmbH) from Königsbrunn was called in as technical lighting manager and grandMA2 operator for "El Juez".
