Arena Group Serves Up an Ace for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals
UK – Building on its long-standing relationship with organisers ATP & AEG, Arena Group returned to provide temporary events overlay and interior design to the prestigious Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, 15th- 22nd November 2015.
For the seventh consecutive year Arena Group transformed The O2 for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, turning it into a sporting venue fit for the tennis world’s top eight men’s singles players and doubles teams. The venue was transformed into an impressive tennis setting through Arena Group’s supply of temporary events overlay and interior design, including the practice courts, hospitality and media structures and courtside media boxes.
Arena Structures installed its bespoke 15m x 35m triple deck hospitality structure that fitted flawlessly against a 40m x 20m tensioned fabric structure (TFS), which housed the players’ practice court. This allowed the event sponsors, which included Mercedes, Emirates and FedEx, to offer their guests exclusive views of the action. The team also provided the media centre, offices and VIP accreditation, and the Tennis Family and Player Restaurants which were redesigned this year to offer guests an elevated experience. An additional 40m x 50m TFS was located within the Fan Zone, which contained two further practice courts open to the public, and 500 tiered seats supplied by Arena Seating.
Daniel Bluff, Arena Structures project manager commented: “The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is always such a great event to work on and I’m really proud of what we have achieved this year. We’re lucky that the ATP is constantly looking for ways to improve its offering for spectators, players and sponsors. We have a great relationship with the all parties involved with this prestigious tournament, which is testament to our detailed understanding of this great event and its requirements.”
Within The O2 arena, Arena Seating installed media boxes, custom broadcast studios, player boxes and camera platforms for international broadcasters, including the BBC and Sky Sports, which was built into The O2 arena’s permanent tiered seating. Arena Seating also supplied 162 Milano chairs for press and 166 individual Arena ‘In-Style’ tip-up seats, upholstered in Camborne tweed.
Martin Clark, Arena Seating’s project director commented: “It was great to be back at The O2 for this year’s Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, and it’s an event we look forward to every year. Due to the popularity of the venue throughout the year, one of the biggest challenges is arranging build times around the other events going on, which requires a great amount of forward planning. Our experience on this event means we are able to meets the needs and high standards of an international sporting tournament of this magnitude.”
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is the biggest indoor tennis tournament in the world and witnessed 30 matches between the world’s top eight men’s singles players and doubles teams, in a unique knockout format. This year Novak Djokovic was crowned champion and claimed a record fourth straight Barclays ATP World Tour Finals title, following his victory over Roger Federer.
Lottie Cresswell, head of event operations for the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, commented: “The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals is one of tennis’ most prestigious events and the ATP have worked closely with Arena for the past seven years to ensure that the event is of world-class standard every time. Together we are always working on new ideas to enhance the experience we offer our guests, sponsors and of course the players and to keep developing the event year on year.”
