Harlequin delegates attend 25th IADMS Conference

USA – When the 25th Annual Meeting of the International Association for Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS) convened in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, representatives of dance floor specialist, Harlequin Floors numbered among the delegates.

The 25th IADMS Annual Meeting offered insights into several aspects of dance medicine and dancers’ health. High on the list was a look at the causes and treatments of musculoskeletal problems in dancers, strategies for prevention and enhancing understanding of recent research and its application to the training and treatment of dancers. Another key focus brought knowledge regarding the psychological and nutritional issues that affect dancers into the spotlight. And finally the ability to communicate effectively with other dance professionals – dancers, dance educators, dance scientists, movement specialists, or health care professionals – was on the agenda. Plus, how to incorporate new techniques into teaching after participating in a variety of movement sessions.

The meeting provides the opportunity for renewing acquaintance with many contacts in the international world of dance. Harlequin – Annual Sponsors of IADMS – is a brand well recognised throughout the dance community as leading the way in developing and evolving the modern dance floor. This is thanks in no small part to a close relationship forged between dancers and a manufacturer intent on developing floors that dancers choose to dance on. Dancers are naturally well aware of the importance of the dance floor and in recent years Harlequin has supported various researchers to gain a greater insight into understanding of the important contributing factors that constitute a ‘good floor’.

Group marketing manager, Mark Rasmussen was delighted to present the Harlequin sponsored Marjorie Moore Student Poster Award for the winning poster titled “Trust, satisfaction, and confidence in physicians among student and professional dancers in France.” This was created by Stephanie Alimena, BA - University of Connecticut School of Medicine, Farmington, CT and Mary E. Air, MD - Kaiser Permanente San Rafael Medical Center, San Rafael, CA.

But it was not all serious stuff as Harlequin’s Mark Rasmussen was to demonstrate taking over the speaker’s podium as auctioneer in a charity auction that included a top prize of tickets for a box at Covent Garden for a performance of the Royal Ballet.
