Audience Systems completes stunning seating refit at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre

UK – Audience Systems’ brand new Icon theatre seat has recently enjoyed its début at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre. As part of an ambitious and glitzy refurbishment of the theatre, Audience Systems re-seated the entire auditorium with 1,200 of these versatile chairs.

The beautiful Grade II listed auditorium naturally demands an elegant seat which sits well in its surroundings. But beneath its antique pine timber and classic red upholstery, Icon also subtly incorporates some very modern benefits – a whisper-quiet, soft return seat pivot which greatly reduces noise in the auditorium, a contoured backrest specially tested to provide comfort for people of all sizes, and an unfussy design which provides clear waymarking and reduces hiding places for dirt.

Audience Systems designed the seating layout to work with the quirks of the building. Each seat was individually adjusted to suit the characteristics of the floor, the available legroom and the desired sightline in each specific location.

With a press opening and Gala night booked to mark the re-opening, all 1,200 chairs were successfully installed on a challenging schedule.

Chris Moore, Associate Director – Operations at the Theatre said: "We are all delighted with the new seating and we have received lots of positive feedback from customers. The seats are comfortable, and as well as meeting modern standards and expectations they complement the age of our Victorian auditorium. Throughout the whole process, Audience Systems have worked tirelessly to achieve our deadline and we are extremely pleased with their workmanship and professionalism."
