White Light Returns to London Fashion Week with Simone Rocha Showcase at Southwark Cathedral
UK – London Fashion Week returned last month as the world’s most renowned designers exhibited their latest work in a range of venues across the capital. Following its work on previous London Fashion Weeks, White Light was called upon once again to offer the complete production support on a range of shows. This included the Simone Rocha Showcase at Southwark Cathedral.
The Simone Rocha Showcase took place on Saturday 17th September. The Dublin-born designer showcased her latest creations which included bridal dresses, tailored trenches, tunic dresses and even body bags. Dominic Yates, WL’s senior account manager, comments: “Whilst we were working on several exciting shows at this year’s London Fashion Week, the Simone Rocha Showcase was unique in the sense that it was taking place in such a historic location as Southwark Cathedral”.
WL worked closed with the show’s lighting designer Tupac Matir in order to create a lighting design that accentuated Simone Rocha’s collection while also being practical enough to work within Southwark Cathedral.
As a result, Tupac used WL’s state-of-the-art studio facility Studio15 to work on his design. He decided to draw on 24 Clay Paky Sharpys, 32 CORE Lighting Point 30s, 40 CORE Lighting ColourPoints, six ADB ALC4 CYC Units, four Arri 2kW Fresnels, along with control from an Avolites Pearl Expert.
Dominic adds: “As this was one of the biggest shows throughout London Fashion Week, we wanted to ensure that it was as visually impressive as possible. Therefore Tupac was able to draw on our unparalleled range of equipment to make his design a reality.”
With the show taking place at Southwark Cathedral, this meant that WL had to create a unique set up that would work alongside the venue’s architecture. Dominic adds: “With the Clay Paky Sharpys, these had to be rigged in very narrow, high level eaves in the Cathedral’s roof. To achieve this, we had to design a custom rigging solution specifically for this show. We also carried out a test run on-site before the actual event.”
The show was a huge success, with on-site project manager Martin Strods and a team of seven technicians ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
Rose Harding, development director at Southwark Cathedral, comments: "We were particularly thrilled to learn WL were the chosen lighting company for the Simone Rocha show. Their reputation for excellence precedes them and the mix of Tupac Matir and WL was sure to be something very special indeed. It was a delight to work with a team so used to working with the restrictions of a heritage site, as both the installation and de-rig of the lighting scheme were seamless. This is essential to the running of a building that is a Cathedral first and foremost and WL’s skill in the delivery of creative lighting schemes plays very well to our Gothic architecture, stained glass windows, angels and monuments and stonework.”
The Simone Rocha Showcase was one of many that WL worked on during London Fashion Week, with the others being shows for INCA Productions, Gainsbury & Whiting, OBO Global, Pretty Bird, Renegade Design and Bacchus PR.
Dominic adds: “The London Fashion Week is always a really exciting event to work on as it allows us to support a range of shows; all very different yet equally ambitious. We are delighted with how well the Simone Rocha Showcase went, along with the others we worked on”.
