UK – When Thor André from technical sales at Ambersphere Solutions visited the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) to chat to technical stage manager, Simon Bagnall, the choice for a new replacement lighting console had already been decided and the order placed with the installers, Complete Production Solutions Group (CPS). “The BIC is in the process of making a significant investment in lighting and AV equipment,” opens Bagnall, “and without really exploring our options we were just intending to purchase a lighting console from the same manufacturer as our old large theatre desk. But after a chat with Thor, we took a close look at the MA dot2; the OnPC facility was of great interest to us and with four venues within the centre the ‘pick up and go’ attraction of the dot2 was obvious. We booked a training session with Thor and he came down the following week.”

UK -The Shaftesbury Theatre in London prides itself on being the largest independent theatre in the West End. For over a century it has played host to many high quality, large scale productions, and in order to ensure its long term ability to do this, the theatre recently extended its fly tower, increasing both the height and loading capacity. This valuable addition to the Grade II listed building has made the venue more capable than ever of accommodating large scale productions, particularly musicals, and indeed earlier this month opened 'Motown The Musical' to critical and audience acclaim. The theatre now also provides additional dressing room accommodation and increased on-site office space. To help facilitate the refurbishment, Unusual Rigging was engaged on each of the three phases of the construction process, the last of which was completed in February 2016.

China – With a prestigious past of corporate innovations, Ford contracted TAIT Towers, known for designing and fabricating world tour stage sets for the likes of Taylor Swift, U2, Madonna and more, as well as previous auto show salon designs for Mercedes, Toyota, Infiniti and Cadillac, to manufacture a hydraulic scissor lift, known as the Ford Experience, built exclusively for attendees of the 2016 Beijing Motor Show. The lift will ascend 23 feet into a video surround, and will then revolve to display the show room floor. Each ride lasts three minutes and accommodates up to 15 people.

UK - Lifting, control and rigging specialist Lift-Turn-Move (LTM) supplied LoadGuard hoists to SSE Audio which were used for The Corrs tour. Four of the LTM team were invited by SSE Audio’s Russell Holt to watch the load-in at Liverpool Echo Arena. This was the first time behind the scenes for some of the team to see their gear in action. It has proved a very valuable experience, improving their understanding and product knowledge. The attendees from LTM comprised Clare Sheppard from sales, Alison Marshall from marketing and Jack Triggs from the workshop. Jack Triggs stated: “Today has been extremely beneficial, I am based in the workshop building the hoists I have never had the opportunity to see what the hoists were used for in a concert, it gave me a great overview of how the hoists are used.”

Germany – As in previous years, the Production Resource Group (PRG) created their spectacular “Highlight Show” in the Festhalle at prolight+sound 2016. The first show took place at the event of the LEA Awards, where a spectacular laser display accompanied the performance of the famous musical group Glasperlenspiel. Afterwards, during the exhibition, the highlight show was played every half hour, showcasing the high quality equipment and show creation capabilities of PRG.
Besides the conventional lighting, video projections and the powerful sound system, an extraordinary and exceptional laser show took place. More than 400W of laser power was implemented, including the world’s-first presentation of a completely new show design lighting fixture, the RTI NEO SIX RGB white light beam arrays with analogue modulation and beam deflection. This new fixture allows for creating twist and wave effects in mid-air with a multitude of single beams that can be individually controlled over standard DMX.

Its new LCS load-measuring shackles are available for both 3.25t and 4.75t loads in both DX and RF versions.
