IP65 Lights and Wellingtons at Glastonbury

UK – Once again, the Glastonbury Festival rigs had the good fortune to be specified with SGM fixtures. NEG Earth was the general lighting contractor and has been for many years. On the main stage 60 Q-7s and 20 G-Spots shone on the stellar lineup that included Coldplay, Adele, Muse, Beck, Foals, ZZ Top, Tame Impala and Ellie Goulding among many others.

This summer, there has been multiple reports of fixtures failing under the strain of heavy rainfalls – especially in Europe – and in extreme cases fixtures without appropriate domes and protection have even been known to catch fire.

The weekend before the festival was due, a heavy torrential storm flooded the Glastonbury festival and car park areas. A gloomy forecast for the festival weekend threatened to leave festival goers drenched in showers and mud puddles. Luckily, apart from a few drizzles during the event, the weather behaved sensibly, although most of the site had been left with deep, sticky mud puddles.

Despite conditions 150,000 people showed up and managed to have a great weekend full of musical experiences, all the while the IP65-rated SGM fixtures kept going.
