Doughty clamps down on IBC

The Netherlands – Doughty Engineering will unveil two new clamps at this year's IBC show as well as exhibiting the company's range of kit designed with the film and TV industry in mind.

The Clamp Space Saver is a unique product from Doughty that will make its debut at IBC. Clamps can be awkward to store and transport, wasting space in each storage box due to their size and shape. Visitors to stand 12.A58 will be able to see how the Clamp Space Saver allows the clamp to fold down, reducing its height to just 50mm, saving 100mm of space per clamp. Made from high tensile aluminium, it has a SWL of 100kg and has been designed so that the clamp does not have to be removed from the item it is fixed to, especially when put in a flight case.

Mark Chorley, design engineer at Doughty, explained: "The Clamp Space Saver is an item we designed after considering how cumbersome a clamp is to store and transport. The idea that a clamp can be folded down, and therefore be more ergonomically friendly, is really a rather simple concept but not one that has been considered before to our knowledge, so we look forward to gathering some feedback on the stand this year. We hope that our customers who are regularly on the road or filming on location will reap the benefits this product has to offer."

An upgraded Super Lightweight Clamp will also be on display and Mark is anticipating positive feedback on the changes that have been made. "We listened to a lot of our customers, both in the film and broadcast industry and in the theatrical world, who said that when working at height it is often frustrating when the knob of the clamp spins off and falls to the ground. We've made some changes to the eyebolt and made the knob captive so that it can’t fall off. We have also increased the SWL from 75kg to 100kg which we hope will please everyone who is already a loyal user of the clamp."

Doughty will also bring its projector mount to this year's show. This latest member of the Modular Rigging family has been designed to offer a 360 degree rotation, tilts in two directions and is adjustable to fit most projectors. In addition to this, Doughty's award winning drop arms and H frames, trolleys and a selection of grip, rigging, suspension and lifting equipment will be on the stand as well as Doughty's Camera Cradles and Studio Rail which offers a SWL of 100kg in most situations and versatile enough to provide for anything from a lighting rig to a walk-along curtain track.

Mark concluded: "2016 has seen us continue to make headway in the film and broadcast industry, and as we go from strength to strength, we find ourselves becoming involved with some fascinating projects. It is only right therefore that we use a show like IBC to find out what our customers in this arena think we're doing right, what they'd like to see more of, and what changes they'd like us to make. Developing and making changes to our products, so that they tick all the right boxes for all our customers, is at the very heart of what Doughty prides itself on."
