ABTT Collaborative Doctoral Project Deadline

UK – The application deadline for the new and important Collaborative Doctoral Award, an exciting initiative between the Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) and the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (RCSSD), is fast approaching.

The Award, which offers a postgraduate student the opportunity to pursue a fully funded PhD at a leading centre for research in theatre and performance, together with the ABTT – one of the earliest organisations to represent the interests and needs of theatre designers and technical practitioners – has attracted much interest and praise for the legacy the resulting body of work will have for the industry.

The purpose of the Award is to enable a researcher to examine the historical context of the establishment and development of the ABTT, as well as its impact on the evolution of theatre design and standards of architectural, engineering and stage arrangements for places of entertainment. For clarification, the term “theatre design” is used in this context to describe the design of premises to accommodate the presentation of live performance.

Full Project Description information is available on the RCSSD's website, as well as the ABTT’s website under its News section, alongside details of how to apply.

The deadline for completed applications is Friday, 5th May 2017, with calls to interview scheduled for week commencing Monday, 15th May 2017.

Applications should be submitted direct to RCSSD and should any applicant wish to have a preliminary discussion before submitting their application, please contact Daniel Hetherington at: research@cssd.ac.uk
