Sprand new beginnings as Lesley Harmer retires from the Industry
UK – Lesley Harmer, a well-known face in the world of entertainment technology PR,has taken a step back from the industry to embrace retirement this year. The move sees the business change to the new name of Sprand Communications, under the management of Lesley’s colleague Sarah Thomas, and the closure of Harmer PR, the business which Lesley started almost 40 years ago.
Sarah said: “Harmer PR gave me my first job in the industry in 2002, where I stayed for three years, leaving to gain experience in the world of consumer PR. Lesley and I got back together in early 2012, when she closed the London office and I began to work for her again, this time on a freelance basis.”
Lesley commented: “Over the past six years, Sarah and I have known the end goal was my retirement. When I moved to the country a few years back, we began a gradual handover, so there has been no impact on our clients or the quality of our service.”
This was confirmed by Julian Chiverton, sales director at client company Doughty Engineering, who said: “It has been a great pleasure to have worked with Lesley who has handled Doughty's PR for six years. We would like to thank Lesley for all of her hard work and wish her a very enjoyable retirement. As Sarah has stepped into Lesley's shoes over the last few years, we've been extremely lucky to have experienced a seamless handover. We are confident that as Sarah takes the reins, our profile within the industry will continue to flourish."
Lizzie Richmond, operations manager at Unusual Rigging added: "Lesley has done so much to raise Unusual's profile since taking on our PR 8 years ago. We will of course be sad to see her take a step back but equally having worked closely with Sarah for the last five years, we are excited to see her take us forward with her new ideas and enthusiasm and we look forward to being a client of Sprand Communications."
The handover will continue smoothly, as Lesley will be supporting Sarah on a consultancy basis. “It’s the perfect balance,” said Lesley. “The time is right to hand over the baton, but equally I’m not sure I could ever tear myself away from this wonderful industry completely.”
Sarah added: “Lesley has been the most amazing mentor over the past two decades. From my early days working at Harmer PR as a fresh face in this business, she has given me countless opportunities to grow professionally. Her support has been second to none and I know this will continue to be the case as I develop Sprand Communications.”
