Hog Factor UK: The Final
UK – The UK Hog Factor competition final took place at Production Futures this year, where two teams competed against one another in a lighting showdown using High End Systems’ Hog 4 console. The students from the team: ‘Two CLC’s and a Norwegian walk into a bar’, took first place in the student lighting programming contest.
Both teams, including runners up ‘Hogging Bruford’, programmed to the song ‘Pretender’ by the Foo Fighters. They showed off their skills in front of a crowd of some of the industry’s most well-known companies and professionals.
The judges of the programming competition included renowned lighting designer Jonathon Armstrong and senior product manager for Hog consoles, Sarah Clausen.
Feedback for each team was positive, with Sarah Clausen commenting on the performances: “Both teams showed a real ability to break down the song and structure of a lighting show to fit the music. We were very impressed with both teams timing and execution.”
The competition took both the artistic impression of the live show as well as the programming style of the Hog 4 into consideration. The judges agreed that the winning team, from Rose Bruford College: “Produced a better structured show in the desk, and had a better use of colour and contrast with their design, portraying a better journey throughout the song.”
High End Systems’ Hog consoles are recognised as industry leaders in large scale automated lighting control and the Hog 4 is the flagship console of the product line, built for largest live events. Since it began in 2015, High End Systems has run Hog Factor competitions around the world at various trade shows and will be back next year at Prolight & Sound 2019 in Frankfurt.
