Mayday comes in March
UK – One of the most influential bands of the 2000s, Mayday, have been called the Chinese Beatles before now; one compelling reason why a one-off show in London attracted enough fans to fill the O2 Arena. Staged in early March, Live Nations’ point man Maximus Burnham production managed the whole presentation, no small accomplishment under the circumstances.
“This was an enormous production,” said Maximus, “The show design was the same used on tour across the US. However, for the two European shows on the world tour, they opted to go for local production vendors. We assembled every part of their show design using suppliers and service providers here in the UK (other than some bespoke lifts from Paris). Video formed a major component and we selected Video Design to cover all aspects, cameras, screens and control.”
Maximus had good reason for his decision: “Video Design have provided rock solid support on previous shows for us, particularly ‘Bring me the Horizon’ and a really notable piece of work for us on the J Cole tour last year. The quality of their hardware for J Cole and the general attitude of their crew throughout was exactly why we chose them. With this show they delivered yet again.
“Unlike the Paris show which had a pre-rig and production day, due to venue availability, time at the O2 was tight. This really was an ‘all hands-on deck’ production; even the head of the company Alex Leinster took the reins on site to ensure we were ready for the show. To give you some idea of the time constraints, we started load-in on the day of the show at 1am, worked right through to show time and through load out. That’s an amazing achievement under the circumstances. Without people like Alex and his excellent crew this simply would not have happened.”
