UK – Salisbury Cathedral illuminates the sky as a symbol of hope during this pandemic year. For the project Light of Hope, which is initiated by artist Peter Walker, the participating cathedrals illuminate the sky with beams of light as a symbol of hope during All Saints and All Souls Days. The project is supported by the Arts Council England and includes an arts project for school children which they can join and create their own Light of Hope artwork.

The AML group, which works closely with the freelance community in Salisbury, was asked by Salisbury Cathedral to offer a design solution for the lighting. AML Group’s technical director Tom Sneddon made the design and used four Showtec Polar 300 Hybrid fixtures to light up the sky at Salisbury Cathedral. The Showtec Polar fixtures are hoisted 50 metres up in the air and are positioned to illuminate the cross on the tallest spire of England.

The result looks truly magnificent! Some of the far off photos are taken at a distance of six miles and shows that this project, even from miles away, can give people a collective beacon of hope from a safe distance.
