Diamond Princess Sparkles with HES Catalyst
The new Diamond Princess cruiseship – Princess’ largest and most amenity-filled vessel to date -- recently set forth on its inaugural voyage stocked with an installation of High End Systems (HES) products.
LDs Bryan Barancik and Andrew Wilder of Luxious in Las Vegas have worked on many Princess cruiseships using HES equipment. But this is the first time they have installed a Catalyst v3 Media Server, two Catalyst orbital heads and a Wholehog III console onto a ship show. The new production, ‘The Piano Man”, runs in the Princess Theatre.
HES’ Mike Hanson jumped onboard from its shipyard in Nagasaki, Japan, to San Pedro, CA, spending 13 days to train and program with the duo. In addition to the previously mentioned products, the equipment list also features 32 Cyberlight Turbos, 9 x.Spot Xtremes, 30 Studio Color 575s, 12 Color Pro FX, 2 Technobeam and 120K of conventional lighting, all run on the Hog III.
Says Barancik: “This show was a ‘light’ use of Catalyst. I love it; it’s extremely strong and can do almost anything. It’s all about content. We used some movies to lay on top of the dancers in the show and used lots of still image projection.”
X.Spot Xtremes are used quite frequently in the show, and Barancik says the addition of Cyberlight Turbos and Studio Colors makes it a “powerful” team.
“Wholehog III was chosen for its time code functions,” says Hanson. “Andrew was very happy with the ease of editing and using the timecode functions. The entire show is triggered with time code.”
The Diamond Princess, part of the Carnival Corporation, is based in California for West Coast cruises.
