Lightswitch at Kips Bay
Lightswitch partner Howard Werner is participating in the annual Kips Bay Designer Showhouse in Manhattan. The renowned springtime event invites name designers from around the country to create individual rooms within a chosen residence. The showcase kicks off with a gala event and is then open to the public. The funds from both the gala and open house are used to support the Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club. Founded in 1915, Kips Bay promotes juvenile development and prevents juvenile delinquency by helping young people recognize and achieve their potential. This year’s project is on Park Avenue and 64th Street and will be open from May 4th to May 31st.
Werner is working with interior designer Theo Kalomirakisto create a deluxe screening room in the five story townhouse. The screening room is an eight-seat movie theatre designed by TK Theaters of New York City. It uses simple geometric forms that are evocative of an Art Deco style. The space’s inverted pyramids are internally lit with Color Kinetics LED fixtures and framed by back-lit panels.
Lightswitch is also designing the waiting area, bar and powder room adjacent to the theater space. For these areas, they are using fixtures from Translight Sonoma, as well as an elegant line of red neon.
Werner commented: “Kips Bay is doing tremendous work with children in the New York City area. It’s a privilege to be working on a project where the proceeds go to such a great cause, and to also be continuing our relationship with TK Theaters.”
