Special Guests To Headline Workshop Staff Audio Theatre Workshop
On Saturday, 12th June this year, when the Audio Theatre Workshop’s (ATW) live performance goes on the air, staff and participants will be joined by noted audiobook narrator and Broadway actress Barbara Rosenblat. The National Audio Theatre Festivals will be hosting its annual ATW from June 5 through June 13, 2004, at Southwest Missouri State University in West Plains. “Past years have seen notables like David Ossman and Simon Jones among the cast and crew,” said NATF president Charles Potter. “This year we are very luck to have Barbara teaching and working with us. “
Barbara’s award winning career includes work on two continents. She spent many years in England, working in West End theater, television, film and BBC Radio. Over the years she has won numerous Audie Awards for narration, from the Audio Publisher’s Association, and is among AudioFile Magazine’s Golden Voice narrators. On her return to the States, she began an alliance with Recorded Books after being introduced to narrating at the American Foundation for the Blind. She spent nearly two years on Broadway, where she created the role of Mrs. Medlock in the musical The Secret Garden.
Barbara’s current list of audiobook titles is now close to 100. She is best known for her ability to not only narrate, but to also create characters within the book. She has great fluency with accents and dialects. It’s one of her passions and as a result she is in demand for her language skills, which she continues to hone. In her rendition of Sue Townsend’s satire ‘The Queen And I’ Barbara can be heard playing everything from the upper-crust members of the British Royal family to a cockney truck driver. Barbara has also put her unique stamp on several popular series. She is Amelia Peabody, the Victorian archaeologist of Elizabeth Peters’s mystery series, not only to fans, but to the author, as well. This last year Barbara was nominated for three Audies including two for the biography “The Nazi Officer’s Wife” and one for ‘Stuffed’. She found herself up against her own work for both of these books in the Audie’s Solo Narration category. She can also be heard narrating documentaries for television. Most recently she was the voice of “CATS!” on A&E.
A Conversation with Corey Burton “This year’s keynote address will be somewhat different from that of past presentations,” explained George Zarr, NATF’s 2004 Program Chair and Live Performance Producer. “Corey Burton, whose voice acting career spans more than 30 years and is best known for his work in animated feature films, will join Barbara Rosenblat to discuss the many varied and unique characters they have created for different media outlets.”
