D.A.S. Aero Systems In El Salvador

The D.A.S. Aero-28 powered systems have been working hard since their arrival in El Salvador. Recently, the Puerto Rican recording star, Chayanne (pictured), gave a series of tremendously successful concerts held at the Adolfo Pineda Stadium. D.A.S. distributor for El Salvador, Electrónica 2001, used 32 powered CA-28A mid-high units and 24 powered CA-215A low frequency units.
After the concerts, Rafael Trejo, head of the sound rental department at Electrónica 2001, spoke about the system: “For the concerts we input the venue data into the Aeroware prediction program. The software allows the user to program venue data like length, width and distance, providing you with a theoretical coverage area.” The results, according to Trejo, were impressive. “The sound was impeccable. They offered great linearity, excellent coverage and very high sound pressure levels throughout the whole venue. Our experience at this event proved that the Aero systems rival other systems that are much more expensive and difficult to use.”
Trejo said: “The performance of the powered Aero-28 A systems in El Salvador is surprising a lot of people in regard to sound quality, ease of set-up and size; the Aero-28 systems have become Electrónica 2001’s first option when offering equipment. Our rental division provides equipment for all of the major shows in El Salvador, so we have seen and listened to a lot of gear. When the first units arrived we tried them out and were so impressed they went out on tour that day. Compared with other line array systems that we have used and installed, none of them really had anything over the Aero systems.”
The first time the Aero systems were used was with singer Marco Antonio Solis. The artist had trusted his performances to Electrónica 2001 in past events and accepted use of the Aero systems without prior experience. The most difficult aspect of the event was the venue, which offered very poor acoustics and a capacity of more than 12,000 people. Trejo chose to employ 24 powered CA-28A and twelve CA-215A subwoofers. The system was completed with ST215s and ST-218s to cover the wings. The results, according to Trejo, were impressive: "With those few boxes, no system I ever heard performed like that. There was coverage in areas where usually you can’t hear a thing.” The sound engineer working with Solis was equally impressed, especially with the intelligibility and the uniformity in the coverage throughout the whole frequency range.
Since the systems had been tried in one of El Salvador’s most difficult venues, they were off to the National Amphitheater of El Salvador, which seats 9,000. Here, the systems were up against a well known lack of definition on the extreme right and left, as well as the upper rows of the venue. The Aeros were used with the duo Sin Bandera and soloist Nicho Hinojosa. Twelve CA-28As and three CA-215As per side were used. Trejo comments: “Prior to the set-up we input the data into the Aeroware program and, within minutes, we had the system flown and working. During the show, the system performed flawlessly with the people in the back rows appreciating the music as if the were in the first.”
D.A.S. reports that the Aero systems have been a tremendous success around the world, with excellent reviews from everyone using the systems. Musicians, technicians and especially the crews appreciate the sound quality, small size and simple-to-use flying hardware.
