Music and Sound Legends Headline 21st Annual TEC Awards
An array of the music and sound industry’s brightest stars will gather to recognize achievements of their peers at the 21st Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards, to be held at the New York Marriott Marquis on Saturday, 8th October.The charity gala will be hosted by Late Show with David Letterman bassist Will Lee, and is expected to draw close to 700 music and sound industry professionals.
Highlighting the ceremony will be the presentation of the Les Paul Award (sponsored by Gibson Guitar) to musician/composer/filmmaker David Byrne, with appearances by legendary guitarist and inventor Les Paul, and avant-garde musician Laurie Anderson; as well as the induction of renowned producer, Arif Mardin, into the TEC Hall of Fame by Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Eregun.
Among those presenting the 24 awards for creative and technical achievement are many of the recording industry’s top producer/engineers including Elliot Scheiner (Steely Dan, Aerosmith), Jimmy Jam (Janet Jackson, BoyzIIMen), Tony Maserati (Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas), Jimmy Douglass (Missy Elliott, LL Cool J), Frank Filipetti (James Taylor, Carly Simon), Fred Maher (Crystal Method, Fuel), Chuck Ainlay (Mark Knopfler, Chet Atkins ) and Young Guru (Jay-Z).
Also presenting are percussionist/composer Ralph Macdonald (Aretha Franklin, Jimmy Buffett), live sound mixer David Morgan (Paul Simon, Boz Scaggs), Recording Academy president Neil Portnow, studio executive Zoe Thrall and Dynamic Producer founder Felisha Booker. Also, a special presentation on behalf of hearing conservation will be given by famed producer Phil Ramone (Billy Joel, Barbra Streisand, Elton John).
Proceeds of the awards ceremony support the Sound Partners campaign for hearing conservation of the House Ear Institute of Los Angeles, as well as Hearing Education and Awareness for Rockers (HEAR) of San Francisco, and numerous audio scholarship programs at leading colleges and universities.
