PRG Helps USO Entertain Soldiers in Training
PRG recently helped Wayne Newton, Neill McCoy, and the Dallas Cheerleaders entertain American soldiers undergoing desert warfare training at California's remote Fort Irwin complex. The event was held in one of the most austere and difficult environments imaginable, with blowing sand, no permanent power supply, and no formal venue being just a few of the challenges with which PRG had to contend.
"It's not often you need to politely ask someone if they'll please move their 60-ton tank so you can complete your setup!" proclaimed Brian Larson, PRG's project coordinator for the event. "But all of the soldiers were glad to have us there, and they promptly complied with all of our requests."
PRG supplied backline services, complete audio and lighting systems, and staging for the show, which was taped for later broadcast on the E! channel. All power had to be supplied by portable generators. As is typical with USO shows, it was impossible to find an unappreciative member of the audience. However, the very serious nature of the base's activities led to some humorous moments. "Our Clearcom makes the same exact noise as the soldiers' Miles laser gear," Larson explained, "so unfortunately, we caused a few members of the audience to hit the dirt while we were testing it before the show!"
"As a company, we pride ourselves on taking on some of the most difficult production challenges," said Joe Schenk, president of PRG's Las Vegas operations. "We're especially pleased when those challenges can be met in the service of our armed forces.
