PRG Supports Celebrity Poker Showdown

Production Resource Group (PRG) has provided Picture This Television with technical support for multiple tapings of the popular television show Celebrity Poker Showdown at The Palms Casino and Resort in Las Vegas. PRG provided lighting, audio, and rigging support for two tapings of the show in 2004 and additional tapings in prior years.

PRG’s audio support included a flown Meyer speaker system with sub-woofers to help the live audience follow the action and feel like they were sitting among the players. The speakers were also used for playback of various audio tracks to audience entertainment during chip counts and warm-ups. A six-zone, 24-speaker Apogee system supported the lavaliere microphones worn by the players, poker expert Phil Gordon, and show host Dave Foley. Shure wireless microphones enabled sound to be captured during transfers of players from the gaming room to a Losers Lounge.

PRG's lighting support included moving lights, conventional lights, strip lights, and LED lights rigged from a ground-supported truss system. All of the fixtures were controlled by two Whole Hog consoles.

All lighting, audio, and rigging labor for the production was provided by PRG. "We're very grateful to Abby Strauss, the show's supervising producer, for giving us the opportunity to contribute as much as we did to the production of this show," stated Bill Daly, PRG's Audio systems engineering manager. Daly coordinated PRG's overall support for the production and performed onsite audio mixing.

Celebrity Poker Showdown, broadcast weekly on the Bravo channel, features a variety of celebrities competing with each other before a live audience for a share of a $250,000 prize pool. The winner of each game advances to another next game until a championship game is held and an overall winner declared. All celebrity winnings in the production are donated to the celebrity's favorite charities.
