Steve Cochran Joins Staff of Meyer Sound
Meyer Sound has announced that veteran FOH engineer Steve Cochran has joined the company in the role of touring and sales support. Cochran will join Tour Liaison Buford Jones in staffing the company’s Nashville office, located in the famed Soundcheck rehearsal complex. Cochran’s duties will focus on applications, such as assisting artists and engineers working with Meyer Sound equipment in the Soundcheck facility, and participating in educational seminars and training in the Nashville area.
Before coming to Meyer Sound, Cochran most recently spent a year mixing front-of-house for country star LeAnn Rimes, but his history also includes 12 years of FOH work with Ricky Van Shelton, monitor and FOH duties with Julio Iglesias, and a 15-year association with Wolf Sound of Miami, Fla., who first introduced him to Meyer Sound products. Recently, Cochran also has been mixing showcases for Hot Apple Pie, one of Nashville’s hottest breaking acts.
Having discovered and fallen in love with Meyer Sound loudspeakers at Wolf, Cochran has used them extensively in all his subsequent work. That experience is what led him to join Meyer Sound full-time. “I loved the product, it was better than anything I’d ever heard,” Cochran states simply. “I was with Ricky Van Shelton and couldn’t find anything else that sounded as good, and, believe me, we tried them all. Ricky told me, ‘You’ve got three days, let’s try that Meyer stuff you’ve been talking about.’ After three days, he said, ‘That’s what I want.’ Ever since then, I’ve kept searching for the best-sounding speaker I could find and nothing touches the Meyer Sound stuff. That’s my main reason for coming here.”
Cochran’s work with Meyer Sound products over the years often brought him in contact with Meyer Sound southeastern regional sales manager Rick Coleman. His friendship with Coleman, in turn, gave him a better look at the company behind the product, and Cochran liked what he saw. “Everybody I’ve met at Meyer is just really nice,” he comments. “Steve is just the kind of person we like to have in the company,” says Coleman. “He’s smart, very experienced, and a great guy. It’s hard to find a better asset to any company than someone like Steve.”
Jones was also instrumental in bringing Cochran onboard and is delighted that Cochran agreed to do so. “Anyone in Nashville that knows anything about touring knows who Steve is. He has a very long track record of working with successful, discriminating artists and giving them the best sound possible. Interest in Meyer Sound has been growing quickly in Nashville, and Steve gives us the ability to support that interest with a voice of experience and knowledge that we’re all happy to listen to. I’m very excited to have him join our team and I’m already having a lot of fun working with him.”
