Tomcat USA on World Tour with Duran Duran
Duran Duran’s ‘Astronaut’ World Tour begins this month in the US - and Tomcat USA is along for the ride on what is sure to be a popular tour.
Since forming in 1978, Duran Duran’s career has spanned 25 years - in various incarnations. In the early 80’s, the band enjoyed a string of hits and wildly popular music videos. Thanks to this visibility on MTV plus good looks and glamorous style, they became international pop stars. Of course, such popularity can lead to ups and downs and Duran Duran was no exception. Today the original five-member line up from the 80s is back and touring to support their latest CD, Astronaut.
Working with Upstaging, Tomcat USA designed and manufactured three custom circles in three different diameters: 13.5’, 25.5’ and 40’. All three will be a vital part of the moving light show for the tour. Although each circle was made using a medium duty 20.5" bolted format, the project was particularly challenging because the truss required a custom diagonal pattern to accommodate specific lighting requirements.
The tour kicked off in San Juan, Puerto Rico on 8th February with more than 40 other dates throughout the US before heading overseas.
