Paul Vincent and Robert Winters in Hall of Fame
Two long-time industry professionals have been inducted into the Ohio Educational Theatre Association (OEdTA) Hall of Fame: Paul Vincent of Vincent Lighting Systems (VLS) and Robert Winters of Ohio University.
During the ceremony, J.R. Simons, product manager for VLS and an OEdTA board member, illustrated Vincent’s commitment to people and his character: “Paul stresses doing things because they are the right thing to do and not just because they are good for the bottom line.” Vincent’s commitment to the Thespian community has been evident through his company, which – for nearly two decades – has provided the State Conferences with affordable rental gear and workshop presenters. He was instrumental in preparing and presenting a Professional Development workshop to the EdTA in 2002. In addition, VLS has sponsored several summer internships and has several lifetime Thespians currently working for the company.
Betsy Martin and Carol Patterson, two past Hall of Fame Inductees, presented Robert Winters. Mr. Winters, a retired theatre instructor from Ohio University, has been involved with Ohio Thespians since the very first State Conference in 1976. He has presented numerous workshops at conferences as well as supported the college auditions when they were held at State Conference. Winters was instrumental in hosting discussion groups back in 1984-85, which led to state-mandated certification in theatre in order to teach the subject in public schools (prior to this, theatre was “given to” an English teacher or anyone who showed interest). He also spearheaded a group entitled TEAC (Teacher Education Advisory Committee), in which high school and college instructors worked together on ideas for training/curriculum for theatre education. Winter’s vision for improving education in Performing Arts has had a lasting effect throughout the state of Ohio.
OEdTA’s mission is to advance and improve the purposes of the Educational Theatre Association and The International Thespian Society by promoting educational theatre in Ohio and by teaching, educating and instructing students in the performing arts and related subjects.
The lighting industry has long recognized Vincent Lighting Systems as a leader in the theatrical and television lighting business. The past three years, VLS has been voted as the ESTA (Entertainment Services and Technology Association) Dealer of the Year in the category of 25+ employees. Founded in 1978, Vincent Lighting Systems has offices in Cleveland, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Detroit. The company is comprised of a 50-person team who handle lighting sales, maintenance, repair, rentals and production services.
