Tomcat Will Rock You

We Will Rock You made its debut on 14th May, 2002 in London’s West End and Tomcat will be a part of the exclusive North American production in Las Vegas at Le Théâtre des Arts at the Paris Hotel and Casino. The show, written by Ben Elton, featuring the music of Queen, has been playing to sold out crowds since September 2004.

It seems fitting that one of the industry’s leading manufacturer of staging equipment – with a reputation for providing equipment for some of the hottest rock tours – should play such an intricate role in the hot new rock opera based on the music of Queen. Tomcat standard and custom trusses comprise overhead lighting, scenic elements, front of house lighting as well as several lighting towers.

The main overhead lighting trusses utilize twenty four, 10’, two 6’, four 5’ and two 2.5’ sections of medium duty plated truss. These sections are configured to create spans of 85', 72' and two 60' spans in the theatre. In the house, seven 12’ sections of curved MD plated truss create a 73' 10" arch for front of house lighting.

One lighting tower package included 36 10' MD plated spans of truss that create twelve 30' towers. These towers move in and out throughout the show, providing scenic elements, as well as lighting locations. In addition to these towers, two additional stationary 34’ towers were added and unlike the others, they are powder coated black.

Another lighting tower package included components for eight more towers which are similar to others Tomcat has made for various Broadway shows. The main towers are 30"x30" with an aluminum unistrut running the length of the towers which can be used to hang lights in almost any position along the length of the tower. The main chords are 1-1/2" box tube and the connection between towers is a custom spigot, which allows the elimination of almost all the horizontal members in the front face of the tower. Thanks to this custom design there is maximum flexibility in the lighting hang.
