Tomcat’s Wicked in the Windy City
The Wicked tour is off to a wildly successful start! Since publicizing its involvement this past January with the first national tour of the award winning Broadway musical, Tomcat has been asked to manufacture custom items for an additional production.
The need arose after tickets went on sale for the show’s run in Chicago: it sold out immediately for the entire nine-week run – from 29th April through 12th June. Given the high demand for the show, the producers decided to add another production that would stay in Chicago for an open-ended run, allowing the original tour to go on as planned.
“Wicked Tour Productions has been pleased with the equipment provided by Tomcat, so it just made sense for them to continue using the gear that has been working so well thus far,” explained Brad Barnhill, US sales manager for Tomcat USA .
“Our design team understands the challenging requirements for touring Broadway shows and has produced customized concepts and drawings derived from the innovative, very popular Swing Wing truss for both Wicked tours. Our fabricators always step up to meet an impossible delivery schedule time and time again.”
As with the original touring production, Wicked Tour Productions asked Tomcat USA to manufacture a 132’ custom version span of Swing Wing truss. The span comes in three sections, each measuring 36" x 30" X 44'.
The second touring set also needed four sets of lighting towers, as well as a cyc boom and cyc trusses. Each tower is 25" x 30", with heights ranging from 15' to 25' and the set of cyc booms and cyc trusses are 18" x 24" wide towers created to house strip lights – the towers vary in height from 22'-6" to 29'-3" tall.
All of these items were shipped to PRG Lighting in New Jersey, to be fitted with electrics before the tour’s next stop in Los Angeles.
