Starsound Audio Gets Jazzed About Adamson

Starsound Audio of Reno, Nevada is one of the latest companies being welcomed into Adamson's growing list of partners. The full-service sound and lighting house, which is now celebrating its 30th year in business, took delivery of 16 Adamson Y-Axis Y10 enclosures this spring and has been working them steady ever since.

Starsound Audio's first experience with Adamson's Y-Axis Y10 line array came during the Reno Jazz Festival, according to company owner Scott Bergstrom. Held at the University of Nevada's Lawlor Events Center, the event featured a closing night Festival Showcase and Awards Ceremony, with performances by the top-ranking bands, ensembles and soloists from various jazz competition categories. "What a good time I had mixing!" said Bergstrom. "It's always a challenge doing these Big Bands in a 14,000-seat fishbowl – especially not knowing the exact instrumentation and layout until moments before they go on. The Adamson loudspeakers helped immensely – they are just so tight!"

Bergstrom said he was sufficiently jazzed about the performance of the line array – enough to specify Adamson in his next project bid. "We ordered a SpekTrix system for a room I had targeted for some time," he explained. "The client had gently pushed me for years to do their shows, but what I had to offer wasn't that much better than the rig that was already in there. Now it was time."

Reno's Silver Legacy Casino Grand Exposition Hall sees a wide variety of entertainment throughout the year, and Adamson's compact line source system – comprised of 12 SpekTrix, eight SpekTrix Wave 15-degree enclosures and eight SpekTrix Subs – was the perfect fit for this 1500-seat venue.

"The first show using the SpekTrix system was 'Thunder from Down Under' – a highly choreographed male review. Those little boxes shredded that room! I wasn't too surprised," said Bergstrom.

"One of the upcoming acts booked at the Silver Legacy is Ted Nugent. Going into this project, I needed assurance that these cute little boxes would handle it," said Bergstrom, who now has complete confidence that the SpekTrix is more than up to the task. "Not that Donny Osmond (who performed at the Silver Legacy on June 18th) is the same by any comparison, but his show this weekend was great! He and the sound were flawless."
