Thunder Plants MILO on the Road
Thunder Audio (Taylor, Mich.) is putting their recently purchased MILO high-power curvilinear array system to work on Robert Plant’s 22-date summer U.S. tour. According to Thunder vice president Paul Owen, 34 MILO cabinets will be employed to fill the houses on the tour, which kicks off on 15th June in Providence, RI.
Founded more than 25 years ago, Thunder Audio is well-known for servicing heavy clients such as Metallica and Slipknot, but actually has a diverse clientele that includes the Detroit Symphony.
“I got to use the MILO system with Metallica when we were in Iceland,” Owen recounts. “We were coming off of two years of touring with them where we saw just about every kind of system available on the European festival circuit. Now, I take (Metallica FOH engineer) Big Mick’s opinion on a system more than anyone else’s, having known him for 25 years. After using MILO in Iceland Mick said, ’This just beats all of them hands-down’.”
Having heard MILO, as well as Big Mick’s opinion, Owen and partner Tony Villarreal were convinced and bought a MILO system. Placing the system on the Led Zeppelin frontman’s tour was not difficult.
“We have built a lot of trust with our customers and I’ve known (Robert Plant FOH engineer) Roy Williams for decades, so Roy was willing to pretty much take our word on what system would work best for him on this tour.
Owen, recipient of a 2005 Parnelli Award for Monitor Mixer of the Year, thinks the MILO system will see a lot of use by Thunder because of its versatility. “We feel that MILO is very good for the heavy acts but has got the fidelity for the other acts we do as well.
