UK Student Receives Sponsorship from ETC for LDI 2005
For the sixth consecutive year, ETC has selected a group of high-achieving students which the company will sponsor to attend the LDI tradeshow in Orlando, Florida. This year, for the first time, the group includes a student from the UK.
The students, all enrolled in college study for 2005 in specialities related to lighting design, theatre or entertainment technology, applied for the sponsorship awards earlier this year. Tae-Hyun Kim, a student at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, was researching information on the Source Four Revolution when he saw ETC’s call for applications. With an attitude of ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’, he seized the opportunity and proved he had the background to be a great ETC sponsorship choice. Working towards a 2006 MFA in advanced stage and screen practice (lighting design), Tae-Hyun will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to LDI, which will include entrance to the full LDI Conference programme.
The ETC LDI sponsorship will afford each individual the unique opportunity to view the latest entertainment design technologies, to glimpse behind the scenes of a major lighting manufacturer as it markets new products and to network with some of the industry’s most influential professionals. ETC pays for each student’s travel, lodging, meals and extras. Past sponsorship students have found the experience invaluable and have gone on to work with Broadway lighting designers, teach at universities and set up successful consultancies.
This year’s recipients of the sixth ETC LDI student sponsorship are: Andrew Cissna - North Carolina School of the Arts; Anthony Galaska - Purdue University; Nick Gonsman - Penn State University; D.J. Selmeyer - University of Montana; Bryan Stevenson - University of Arkansas; Tae-Hyun Kim - Queen Margaret University.
You can join ETC in congratulating these rising stars, and take the opportunity of meeting them, on the ETC booth at LDI 2005, Orlando, 11-13 November.
