Don't Tell Mama About Sennheiser
In the heart of New York City, on Manhattan's Restaurant Row, is a world famous piano bar. Called ‘Don't Tell Mama’. It keeps its patrons coming back with an interactive entertainment experience that justifies the long line of enthusiasts enduring to get inside.
What's the hubbub? In addition to the usual get-the-drink-order, bring-the-drink-order, clear-the-glasses-away kind of stuff, the wait staff run up and down the aisles belting out tunes into their wireless mics. They encourage the crowd to clap along and often single out patrons for impromptu duets or solos. Broadway stars such as Liza Minelli, Nathan Lane, David Cassidy, Christina Applegate, Rosie O'Donnell, and Matthew Broderick also drop by Don't Tell Mama unannounced and treat the house to an intimate and sometimes lighthearted version of their material.
Sound quality is crucial in this rowdy environment since it ultimately determines how well the singing wait staff at Don't Tell Mama can shape, hone, and control the room. Not only that, Mama's is located in mid-town Manhattan, not exactly the easiest spot for rock solid RF. Several months ago, they were thrilled to take a dramatic step forward in clarity and nuance with their two new Sennheiser Evolution 345 G2 wireless series microphones.
Of the entire singing wait staff at Don't Tell Mama, it is arguably George Sanders who has the most dedicated fans. He has undeniable charisma, a comic sense that could stand by itself, and a knack for incorporating his adoring audience into his antics. Oh, and he has a rich baritone voice that would put many stage singers to shame!
Sanders noticed the difference with Sennheiser right away. "I was really happy with how much nuance the mics offered. On the old wireless, I just had to yell or sing at the top of my lungs to be heard - and then it was usually distorted! The Sennheiser allows me so much more freedom and levels. It has been a delight to use these mics, and many of my regular clientele have commented on the difference."
Club owner Minh Pham is also impressed. "I have been running this room for 15 years and have never heard it sound so good. I didn't realize a microphone could make such a difference, but it does. None of our wait staff want to go back to what we thought was the standard ball microphone singers wanted."
