Washington Wine Gala a Winner with Dynacord
Triamp Group Inc. recently deployed a Dynacord Cobra-2 rig as FOH system for the Washington Wine Gala, held at a private estate in Yakima, to benefit and promote Washington wines.
Triamp’s Nick Yanity, production manager for the event, was impressed with the Cobra’s combination of smooth setup and superb sound quality: “The event was a huge success, with attendance numbers well up from last year. The sound system had a lot to do with making the day go so well, both on the front end and behind the scenes. Once again, I found the Cobra rig to be really easy to work with. The boxes are lightweight and well protected. Combined with its dedicated ‘plug and play’ drive rack, this means the Cobra can be easily sent out for a one-man operation. Because it combines compact size with big sound quality, the Cobra lends itself to many applications: prior to the wine gala, we found that in vocals-only situations it was very clear, and with multiple band events the system performed equally well, with very little adjustment needed on the graph. I felt the boxes were also visually unobtrusive; they blend discretely into corporate applications like this, rather than appearing like two unwieldy monoliths on each side of the stage.”
Mark Miller, mix engineer for the gala, was also sold on the Cobra system: “Wow, what a great package! Small, lightweight, easy to put together, and as punchy as Mike Tyson. I was really impressed with the low end. Full and fat, without the flab... just the way I like it. In working with Type-A, (15-piece Seattle-based funk/R&B band), there are a lot of elements to a mix, each one just as important as the other. The smooth top end and really well pronounced mids made it easy to put together a coherent, booty shakin’ mix that could have easily been mistaken for a much larger, more expensive PA. The 110-degree horn dispersion really falls off well around the edges, making for a more natural listening field. In short, the Dynacord rig kicks like a mule and sings like a siren.... I’ll take it!”
