Sennheiser Stands Out at Summerfest
Sennheiser, once again, helped some of the country's top buzz bands sound their best at the annual Summerfest, equipping the emerging artists on the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage with Leinenkugel and 102 ONE WLUM with evolution series wired microphones for their performances. For the first time, Sennheiser also contributed twenty-two Evolution Series e935 wired vocal microphones to the eleven prize packages presented to the best emerging band as voted by the audience each night.
But it wasn't only the emerging new bands that benefited from Sennheiser technology at Summerfest. This year, the U.S. Cellular Connection Stage with Leinenkugel and 102 ONE WLUM also featured established pop/rock bands such as the All-American Rejects and Keane, both long-time users of Sennheiser products.
With live performances taking place on thirteen stages for twelve hours a day over a period of eleven days, the annual Summerfest deserves its title as the world's largest music festival. Established in 1968, the extravaganza of music, food, shopping and other activities regularly draws nearly one million people to its 75-acre permanent site on the shore of Lake Michigan in downtown Milwaukee.
David Silbaugh, responsible for entertainment development at Summerfest, was pleased to have a full complement of Sennheiser evolution series microphones available for the emerging artists for the second year running, and thrilled that some of the bands were able to take some home with them. "Every day, the three bands that appeared in the emerging artists series that day were eligible to win a prize package based on text votes from the audience," explains Silbaugh. “There were two evolution e935 microphones as part of each prize package."
The 33 featured emerging artists - three per day for the duration of the festival - were chosen through an online vote prior to Summerfest. The 11 bands with the most votes were also included on a promotional compilation CD.
The upper Midwest was well represented among the eleven emerging artists voted the best, with Dearborn, Wax On Radio, Martha Berner and The Hush Sound, all from Illinois, plus Minneapolis-based Quietdrive, Milwaukee's own Truth In Fiction, and Innatrance, from Madison, Wisconsin, winning a pair of e935 microphones each. Erstwhile Chicago band, Helen Stellar, now Los Angeles-based, The Apparitions from Lexington, Kentucky, plus Ism and Danielia Cotton, both from New York, rounded out the prize winners.
