XTA GQ600 Dual Channel Equalizer is Sure Bet for America’s Casinos
Eight GQ600 Dual Channel Graphic Equalizers from XTA Electronics are at the sonic center of a sophisticated line array PA system designed and assembled by Sound Image and deployed by live sound specialists Star Way Productions. The XTA GQ600 equalizers and the rest of the system are used regularly for major concert events at two of the country’s leading Native American gaming and resort facilities, the Pechanga Resort & Casino and the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, both in the Southern California area. Since taking possession of the system earlier this year, Star Way Productions has used it for shows featuring artists such as Engelbert Humperdinck, Styx, Jamie Foxx, Stevie Wonder, Ludacris, and Phil Vassar.
The PA system, which is based on QSC WideLine components and uses two Yamaha PM5D FOH consoles, was designed by Sound image, one of the world’s leading touring sound and contracting sound installation specialists. “We recommended the GQ600 EQs for this system because we felt it was the best possible solution for equalization,” says Dave Shadoan, President of Sound Image. “It’s a great EQ and we have it out with several of our clients, including Merle Haggard, who is opening for Bob Dylan, and with the Doobie Brothers. We also use the GQ600 in our contracting division. And they’re super reliable — we’ve never, ever had to send one back for repair.”
A substantial portion of Star Way Productions’ work is focused on the Native American gaming industry, which produces world-class concerts on a weekly basis, as well as on corporate and municipal events and music festivals. “This system is used at all locations and it always sounds great,” says Alex Sukhov, President of Star Way Productions, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. “The GQ600 equalizers make an incredible difference in the system’s performance.” Gary Sanguinet, a mixer and system technician for Star Way Productions (and the system tech on the current Tool tour), agrees. “We have the GQ600 units located at the FOH position and they are used to cover four different audio zones on shows,” he explains. “They sound amazing — they produce a beautifully shaped graph that’s very musical. A lot of EQs have similar features; what separates them is how they sound, and the GQ600 is superb. It’s clean, no noise, and it stays phase-coherent even when you’re pulling down more than three or four dBs on a single band. It’s incredibly smooth. They’re a pleasure to work with.”
As a result of its performance and reliability record over the past decade, the XTA GQ600 continues to be a prominent EQ solution in today's top live sound and install systems. The GQ600 is a precision dual channel 1/3rd octave graphic EQ, providing up to a 10 dB boost or cut at 30 key frequency points between 25 Hz and 25 kHz. An optimized filter design is used to provide improved interpolation and narrow bandwidth performance, while high-quality 45 mm long-throw sliders are used for increased resolution.
