Sennheiser Partners with Daniel Lanois at Toronto International Film Festival
The film enjoyed its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in September and was followed by two nights of concerts at which Lanois had an opportunity to publicly acknowledge the support of Sennheiser, who proudly partnered with him for the debut of his documentary film.
"Daniel Lanois' career is a strong example of the quality artists and producers that have their work praised around the globe," says Jean Langlais, President of Sennheiser Canada. The film's premier on September 9th was followed on September 10th and 11th by two sold-out concert performances at the Great Hall in Toronto at which Lanois showcased songs from his new solo album with a little help from his friends - principal drummer Brian Blade and pianist Garth Hudson, formerly of The Band. Sennheiser supplied numerous microphones for the occasion, including a pair of Neumann TLM 103 large-diaphragm condenser microphones, two Neumann KM 184 small diaphragm condensers, a Sennheiser evolution Series e935 vocal cardioid mic, a pair of e 609 guitar amplifier mics, two e903 dynamic mics for toms, and an e 905 snare mic.
In recognition of that support, Sennheiser's logo was associated with many aspects of the Lanois' movie premier and the subsequent concerts. "I've got thirty years of Sennheiser under my belt! I was very proud to be associated with Sennheiser for my recent concerts that took place during the Toronto International Film Festival," states Lanois.
‘Here Is What Is’ - a Jamaican proverb that means "don't look to tomorrow, look to right now," according to Lanois - documents the musician/producer over the course of 18 months working in his huge downtown Toronto studio as he records his new solo album, planned for release in spring 2008.
The behind-the-scenes film also includes footage of the multi award-winning Canadian producer with many of his frequent collaborators, including co-producer Brian Eno and U2 working on a new album in Morocco, Emmylou Harris, Billy Bob Thornton and Brian Blade. The documentary is co-directed by Lanois with photographer Adam Vollick and recording engineer Adam Samuels, and also features guest appearances by Garth Hudson, Willie Nelson, Aaron Neville and Sinéad O'Connor.
