The ESTA Foundation Announces Mid-Atlantic Technical Training Week
The ESTA Foundation announces ‘Mid-Atlantic Technical Training Week '08’, a six-day schedule of courses for lighting programmers, technicians, and electricians, as well as arena and stage riggers to be held January 21 through January 26, 2008. The courses will be taught by industry experts G. Anthony Phillips, Jay O. Glerum, and Richard Cadena. Representatives from A.C.T Lighting will also present grandMA console training. The courses will be held at Prince George's Community College in Largo, MD (12 miles from Washington D.C.) and are co-sponsored by The ESTA Foundation's Seminars and Training Committee and Theatre & Entertainment Technology at Prince George's Community College.
G. Anthony Phillips of IA Local 16, ETCP Certified Arena Rigger and ETCP Recognized Trainer, will present a full-day workshop, Arena Rigging Math Fundamentals, for rigging in arenas, ballrooms, convention centers, and theatres. The course will cover the essentials of math used for rigging.
Rigging expert Jay O. Glerum of Jay O. Glerum & Associates Inc., ETCP Recognized Trainer, will present a two-day class on stage rigging. The class will cover the physics of rigging, load calculations, hardware design and selection, operation procedures, and inspection and maintenance practices.
A.C.T Lighting will present two days of grandMA lighting console training. Level 1 is designed to give new users the ability to move around and work with the grandMA, grandMA light or grandMA ultra light consoles. Level 2 training is designed to bring existing moving light and conventional lighting console operators to a competent level on those consoles.
Richard Cadena, ETCP Certified Entertainment Electrician and ETCP Recognized Trainer, will present the three-day Entertainment Electrician Training Seminar that covers the concepts of electrical theory, power distribution, and networking. The first day is the foundation builder and refresher on electricity, including DC, AC, Ohm’s law, power, impedance, phase angles, three-phase power, balancing loads, dimming, and more. The second day covers the specifics of power distribution including portable generators, transformers, feeder cable, disconnects, overcurrent protection, branch circuits, connectors, grounding, GFCIs, load calculations, harmonics, lock-out/tag-out, and more. The third day covers networking systems starting with binary numbers and working through data distribution systems and networking including Ethernet, RDM, ACN, wireless, fiber, and more.
