Bandit Sheds Light on the Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville

Bandit Lites is thankful to provide lighting for the annual Antiques and Garden Show of Nashville. The event, which is open to the public February 8-11th, takes place at the Nashville Convention Center.
The show offers 150 antique and horticultural booths as well as many innovative landscaped gardens. In its 17th consecutive year, the show has provided funding for the Exchange Club Charities, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to fundraising with a focus on children. The Exchange Club Charities, Inc. also supports operations and continual preservation of the Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art.
Due to the attention given by lighting designer, Chris Wilson, a visitor at this event would most likely not notice the hardware used to give life to the various displays. However, just as much time, effort and energy is spent in strategically placing the fixtures, cabling and power distribution as the exhibitors apply to the exhibits themselves. Wilson said that the design theme for this particular project was created with the charities it supported in mind.
“Each garden is around 40’ by 60’- as large as some stages- so I could really do a lot of impressive things with lighting and truss design, but every dollar I spend takes away from the charity,” Wilson explained. Wilson added that he chose lights based on which equipment could best create an environmental effect. There were two factors in this process. The first factor being that he wanted people to be able to see the lit areas from afar. The second factor was that people would be walking through the gardens. Wilson said that PARS best achieved both factors by providing consistency and control.
“This project, despite appearing simple in nature, is a challenge for any designer as the lighting must become transparent but effective,“ Bandit vice president, Michael Golden commented. “Chris has become a master at strategically positioning fixtures, cable and power distribution to allow all attention to be on the exhibits without distraction toward the hardware. It has been an extreme honor to have worked with Chris all these years and it is an in-house favorite to work as a technician under Chris’ direction.” This is Bandit Lites’ tenth year working with Chris Wilson on this project.
