Power-H Powers Up the Pro Bowl

Custom Audio (Kaneohe, Hawaii) upped the audio ante for their annual Pro Bowl production spec at this year’s AFL/NFL football face-off in Aloha Stadium, Honolulu, drafting three compact PowerH 5000 amplifiers from Dynacord to help deliver game day sound at some serious SPLs.

A single PowerH 5000 amp per side was all that was needed for each four-speaker sideline setup, used to cover the cheerleaders during the game and the talent during the halftime show. Featured performers for the halftime event were Grammy nominee Henry Kapono—one of Hawaii’s biggest music stars—and MTV star Cheyenne Kimball. An additional single PowerH was used for the stage monitors during the performance. All three amps were running RCM26 remote control DSP modules for    IRIS-Net software.

“Tonality-wise, I was floored,” reported Jeff Kang of Custom Audio. “Everybody who walked by the loudspeakers said ‘I’ve never heard them sound that good before’. There was tons of headroom—in fact we didn’t see the 0dB light come on once, and we were doing around 136-139dB at the side of the field! We were seriously pumping and we never got it to 0dB! We ran one on a 30-amp circuit; on the other I set the breaker model to 20-amps and it didn’t trip. They ran all day—sun, shade, humidity, a little bit of rain here and there… they just kept going flawlessly. PowerH sound great and have more headroom than I’ve ever seen on an amp this stable. Add the precise control you get with the new RCM26 module, and you’ve got one less headache on gameday.

Up to 7kW, only two rack units high, and weighing a mere 14.5kg! With the PowerH series, Dynacord has opened a new chapter in the history of professional high-powered power amplifiers. The 3-stage grounded bridge Class H topology and an extremely stable, state-of-the-art floating switchmode power supply guarantee the ultimate in efficiency, absolute reliability, and audio performance of the very highest quality.

PowerH power amplifiers are ready for integration into IRIS-Net -based networks. Retrofittable remote modules allow complete system supervision and remote control combined with DSP-functions that include ultra-precise FIR filters and optimized algorithms for loudspeaker protection.
