LDI 2007 Courses Offered by ETCP Recognized Trainers
Continued training and professional development activities are essential in the changing entertainment technology environment. The LDInstitute, November 12-16 in Orlando, presents a great opportunity for ETCP Certificants to take courses taught by ETCP Recognized Trainers. The first in the line-up of courses for professional entertainment technicians is TOMCAT USA’s Two-Day Hoist and Truss Workshop, taught by Columbus McKinnon’s Don Dimitroff; Morgan Neff of Mine Safety Appliances; and Keith Bohn, TOMCAT USA’s Design Manager. Seminar highlights include: basics of truss theory; practical information about truss usage and loading; basics for truss inspection; equipment, regulations and programs regarding fall protection; and troubleshooting and maintenance of one ton hoist motors.
On Thursday, Jay O. Glerum will teach Stage Rigging Fundamentals, in which he will cover the physics and metallurgy of rigging, hardware selection and application, and counterweight system operation procedures. On Saturday, Jay offers an hour-and-a-half session on Terminating Wire Rope Safely where he will lead an in-depth discussion of using wire rope clips and compression sleeves.
Also on Thursday, Richard Cadena presents Essential Electrical Training: Setting Up Control Systems. This is an intermediate to advanced course for people who know the basics of data distribution and want to gain additional knowledge, techniques and theory. Highlights include: hands-on interconnection of data distribution elements, exploration of new technologies for networking, background theory and applications of networking, and advanced theory for wireless DMX.
Friday’s all-day course, Arena Math Fundamentals, will be taught by G. Anthony Phillips of Rigrider Rigging Services. This course is targeted towards active riggers who want to learn the essentials of rigging math including determining the forces at the ends of a span, determining bridle leg lengths, determining forces on a bridle leg, cantilever force calculations, and vector calculations.
In addition to the courses taught through the LDInstitute, ETCP will offer the Entertainment Technician Certification Program Information Session on Friday morning for those interested in learning more about ETCP. The panel includes ETCP Council members, Dennis Dorn, Tim Hansen, Eddie Raymond, Bill Sapsis and Ken Vannice. They will discuss the examination process, information and schedules, and answer questions from the audience. Candidate handbooks and applications will be available at the session.
