Maxxyz-controlled MAC Rig for West Coast Premiere of "I Married Wyatt Earp"

In the recent West Coast premiere of the new musical, "I Married Wyatt Earp," at Cal State University’s Young Theatre in Fullerton, California, Martin Professional lighting provided punch and crisp optics to a traditional musical plot.
Lighting designer Debra Lockwood chose Martin MAC 2000 Washes and Performances for their superior output, optics, and reliability on the project. Assistant lighting design was handled by Nick Van Houten. He comments, “The MAC 2000 Washes provided excellent backlight on the downstage thrust, as well as powerful tools to shift the action on different parts of the playing space to a different time era. Use of color and color temperature allowed a clear distinction between the two time periods which are often on stage at the same time.”
Further upstage, MAC 2000 Performances provided extra color and effects on a translucent drop, creating clouds, sunsets, and "amethyst mountains.” Cross focused onto the back of the drop, the shutters, gobos, and animation wheel all combined for truly beautiful sky looks.
Programmed on a Martin Maxxyz lighting console by Master Electrician Matt Schleicher, the lighting fixtures reportedly behaved consistently from night to night, while still responding to tightly cued sequences as well as precisely tuned gobo focuses. "The Maxxyz was a great creative tool for the process," stated Nick Van Houten. "It allowed for quick and accurate programming as well as the ability to update changes from night to night of the technical process." A second console was used for conventional lighting.
