VectorWorks User Kevin Shertz wins AIA Design Excellence Award

Chestertown, Maryland, architect Kevin M. Shertz, AIA, was awarded a 2007 Citation for Architectural Excellence at the AIA Chesapeake Bay Chapter Design Gala. The award was presented for Hollywood Beach House, a new single-family residence located in Chesapeake City, Maryland, which Shertz designed using VectorWorks Architect software.

"When I established my own practice in 2005, I used it as an opportunity to review all the CAD solutions available at the time,” said Shertz. “Whether I need complex BIM capabilities or straightforward 2D output, VectorWorks Architect offers a flexible tool set, which enables me to take on projects of different sizes without sacrificing functionality or quality. As a young practice, that flexibility gives me a competitive edge, especially in a turbulent construction market."

Of the residence itself, Shertz said: “The project was a lot of fun to work on. I had an adventurous client who shared my philosophy that a well-designed space doesn’t need to be gargantuan, and he was looking to live in a house that reflected his deep family history in Cecil County. Using VectorWorks Architect , the house was designed as though it had been built over an extended period of time. It included details such as a timber-framed wing and different types of windows and siding to create spaces with their own unique character.”

Mr. Shertz began his architecture practice in 2005. He is a 1992 graduate of the Pennsylvania School of Art and Design and a 1995 graduate of Lebanon Valley College in Annville, Pennsylvania.
