CP Communications for Political Conventions

CP Communications, LLC. a Red House Holdings Company, in conjunction with Sennheiser USA and GEPCO International, Inc. supplied wired microphones and cable to the 2008 Political Convention Frequency Coordinating Committee also known as POLCOMM 2008.

"Since the Political Conventions were going to be a bit of an RF challenge to say the least, these mics and cable allowed the committee to offer an alternative to potential wireless users whose frequencies were in conflict with pre-coordinated users," said Michael Mason, president of CP Communications.

"Louis Libin (POLCOMM 2008 chairman and president/CEO of Broad-Comm) and I had been talking about ways to alleviate congestion during major events," continued Mason. "I came up with this plan to solicit vendors to help and ran with it. I approached several manufacturers to assist and both Sennheiser USA and GEPCO International both welcomed the invitation and signed on to support the project."

Sennheiser USA graciously agreed to donate 50 of their MD46 Handheld Cardioid Dynamic Microphone and GEPCO has graciously agreed to donate 100 pieces of microphone cable in the 50 foot and 25 foot lengths. CP Communications facilitated packaging up 25 microphones with 25' cables and 25 microphones with 50' cables with the balance of the cable packaged in a fashion that could be lent to those who have their own microphones.

"The Democratic and Republican Political Conventions in Denver and in St. Paul were the most critical tests for the actual uses of wireless systems, especially wireless mics. Hundreds were used simultaneously. Unfortunately, hundreds more attempted to use their wireless mics without coordination," said Louis Libin, chairman, POLCOMM 2008. "When stopped by POLCOMM, the communications committee, most used their own microphones and wires. Othersdid not have microphones and wires, and were "lent" both wires andmicrophones that were supplied by CP Communications, GEPCO and Sennheiser. The integrity of both the production and the broadcast, by all the networks was enhanced through the loan of these mics and wires. Interferences were kept to an absolute bare minimum, which was a great surprise to many. I am very thankful for the loan of this equipment."

In addition to the equipment, shipping logistics to get the equipment from Denver, CO to St. Paul, MN was graciously supplied by SOS Global Express. The time frame was tight between the close of the DNC and the open of the RNC and SOS was there and made it happen.
