Strong Smashes Limits to LED Brightness and Beam Control

Strong Entertainment Lighting has successfully developed a LED light source that can produce 24 footcandles over a 23 foot square field from a 650 watt outdoor luminaire mounted four hundred feet away.

Strong is famous for its very bright and very useful lights from followspots and cinema projectors to the light on top of the Luxor. "We see this breakthrough in LED lighting as a proud extension of our history," said Paul Rabinovitz, Vice President of the Ballantyne Strong lighting division.

Strong sees this new LED light engine as the long awaited solution to problems of low light levels and poorly controlled beam shapes that have plagued LED luminaires since they were first introduced.

Strong has named the first luminaire using its patented LED light engine technology as the SolutionsTM 650. It delivers more light at a 400 foot throw than does the BritelightM 2000, Strong's industry leading 2kW xenon beam projector.

In fact, when compared to the 2,000 watt Britelight the Solutions 650 puts out three times the light energy per watt. Developed with tall buildings and towers in mind, this fixture could save an owner more than $2,500 per unit per year in energy, lamps and labour.

Early in 2010, Strong will also introduce the Solutions 1000 and Solutions 1500 colour changing luminaires, which utilise a five colour variation of the new LED engine. These luminaires will offer colour mixing with efficiency levels and CRI ratings that are well beyond the capabilities of existing RGB LED light fixtures. Strong /LED breakthrough.

The Solutions 1000 and Solutions 1500 will incorporate a five colour system (Red Green Blue + Yellow and Cyan) in order to produce a better balance of colours and whiter whites. Furthermore, the system mixes all five colours inside the LED engine before the light leaves the fixture, thus eliminating the multiple colour shadows that are characteristic of typical RGB LED luminaires.

Given the enthusiasm generated by the first fixtures to use this breakthrough technology, the team at Strong is even more excited about what comes next. Several new and innovative products are already in development. Throughout LDI and at all of the product presentations and discussions that follow, the Strong team will be soliciting ideas from lighting designers, installers, and end users. From teachers and students as well. In fact, the Strong team firmly believes that everyone with an interest in the lighting industry will have contributions to make.

Product ideas have already come in from leaders in architectural lighting design, the school market and, of course, the entertainment lighting industry.

After LDI closes, prototypes of the Solutions 650 are scheduled to tour the major markets in the US and Canada, followed with introductions in Europe, Asia and throughout the world.

In a technological breakthrough Strong Entertainment Lighting has developed a LED light source that makes a 650 watt LED luminaire as bright as an industry leading 2,000 watt xenon beam projector.
